KoulaChat, in its own window
Same site, same account — but it does the one thing a browser tab cannot. Closing the window does not shut it down. It parks in your system tray, stays signed in and stays connected, so a call still rings and a message still reaches you. Quit properly from the tray icon whenever you actually want it gone.
Installs for your account only, so there is no administrator prompt. Adds a Start Menu entry and, if you tick it, starts with Windows so calls still reach you.
What you get
- Notifications with the window closed. The app keeps running in the tray, so an incoming call raises a real Windows toast or a real desktop notification — not a badge you find hours later.
- Stays signed in. No logging in every launch.
- Start with your computer. Optional, off unless you tick it during install — but it is what makes background notifications real, because an app that is not running cannot notify you.
- One instance. Clicking the icon again brings the running copy to the front instead of opening a second one.
- No account needed to install. Same login as the website.
Installing
Windows
Run KoulaChat-Setup.exe. It installs for your account only, so Windows does not
ask for an administrator password. Windows SmartScreen may warn you that the publisher is
unknown — the app is not code-signed yet (a certificate costs money and is on the list).
Click More info then Run anyway if you are happy to.
Linux
Run the installer with bash — no sudo, nothing outside your home directory:
bash KoulaChat-Setup-linux-x86_64.run
It adds KoulaChat to your applications menu and offers to start it at login.
Uninstall any time with
~/.local/share/KoulaChat/uninstall.sh --uninstall.
Questions people actually ask
No. Everything works in a browser at koulachat.com. The app exists for notifications that keep arriving after you close it.
That is the point of it. It goes to the system tray so calls still reach you. Right-click the tray icon and choose Quit KoulaChat to stop it properly — or turn the behaviour off in that same menu.
Browsers can do background notifications too — turn them on in Settings. The app is more reliable about it, especially on Windows.
Not yet. macOS needs an Apple-signed and notarised build to run without warnings, which needs a paid developer account. The site works in Safari today.
No, and there may not need to be: add the site to your home screen and it behaves like one, notifications included.
One small settings file —

Uninstalling leaves it alone so a reinstall remembers your preferences.
